About Us

Our Story

AmblingBrook Farm came to being in 2011

The Farm:  We sit on 20 acres of two rolling low hills that meet at a stream that ambles through the farm.  More to come here

The sheep:  Starting with a few Gotland-cross sheep, and using imported semen, i realized that i’d be dead before we got anywhere near 99% Gotland genetics.  So, after four years of back and forth (and getting help from my congressman, Roscoe Bartlett) I finally got USDA permission to bring in frozen embryos from New Zealand that were 100% Gotland.      more to come here

Meet  the  herding  Team

ABF Sirius (top sheepdog)
ABF Rain (understudy)

And the rest of the family

Polly (and Annie)
Lucy (top mouser)
Teddy (top schmooser)
Percy (all round cat)
Kit (eldery princess)

Sirius is 13 and is my right arm.  I could not do this without him.  He is an amazing farm dog.  His half sister, Rain, is 4 years old and becoming a really useful helper.  She has a few things to learn yet, and doesn’t have quite the power that Sirius has, but is an invaluable member of the herding team.  They are both Bearded Border Collies, and registered with the American Border Collie Association. I, Polly, take care of the sheep and everyone else, and made this website.  Annie passed over the bridge and is terribly missed.  Lucy, Teddy and Percy are littermates.  I was supposed to foster them as kittens and then find homes for them, but they ended up staying: the nicest cats i’ve known.  Kit came to me from a good friend in Chicago whose allergies were finally too much.  She is 16 and enjoying her retirement on the farm.
